“On the cross, Jesus said God forsook Him. Was He a fake?”

Jesus’ words recorded in Matt. 27:46 and Mark 15:34 were the fulfillment of David’s prophecy in Psa. 22:1. Verse 3 of this psalm then gives us insight into why God forsook Jesus as He hung on the cross: “But You are holy…” A holy Creator cannot have fellowship with sin. When Jesus was on the cross. the sin of the entire world was laid upon Him (Isa. 53:6; 2 Cor. 5:21), but Scripture says God is “of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness” (Hab. 1:13). Jesus had to tread the winepress alone (Isa. 63:3), but He had the consolation that God would highly exalt Him and give Him back the glory He had before the incarnation.
